These terms can be somewhat confusing to your average web user. If you are unsure what any of this jargon means, it's okay. You are not alone. So why don't you take a look at the glossary of terms.

Brochure Website A brochure site is what you would expect it to be. Compare it to it's real world counter-part, it is usually two to three pages of information laid out in a way it is easy to follow. The brochure website is generally a static webpage - this means that the information presented on it does not change which can make it quite cumbersome if you need to update the information often. Luckily, I provide a dynamic version of the classic brochure website. Blog A blog website is a dynamic website. The word "blog" is a shortened term for "Web Log". These types of websites are becoming ncreasingly popular, as they are effectively a simple content management system. They basically allow you, the user, to log into your website and write a new article, then publish it.
The wonderful thing about dynamic websites, is that absolutely no technical knowledge needed to write content on your website. If you can use a word processor, you can use my blog system. Content Management System (CMS) A CMS is like a blog on steroids. Under the bonnet, this is quite a complex application that allows you full control over the entire website (not just the content, like in a Blog). You effectively manage all aspects of the website yourself. Full administrative control lets you manage the content on the website, it also lets you create new sections of the website. It lets you restrict access to only certain users who you have granted relevant permissions to. This application is very powerful and is perfect for large websites with lots of information to deliver in lots of different areas. Store front / shopping cart / e-commerce If you run a shop on the high street, having an online store is a fantastic way to gain more custom. Not only will your shop be open for 24 hours, but you will be reaching out to an international market without the hassle of opening and closing your store.

Can't find the right words to say?

Search engines don't just rank your website based on your keywords and page title. The search engine "spiders" are intelligent and analyse the content on your page. If your content does not relate to your website then you will not place high in the results.

This is why with every website I design, optimisation for search engines comes as a standard through the use of effective keywords placed in the copy of your pages.

So now you place well in the search engines, people are bound to read your site? Wrong. Getting users on to your website is ony half of the battle. You now have to keep them there. This is generally not done by placing a wall of text in font size 8 directly in front of the user's face. Web copy should be enticing, have a good flow and be enjoyable and easy to read. The experts say you have 3 — 5 seconds to entice the user to your site. If they decide upon staying, you then have a further nine seconds to keep them at your site. This means you have to make a positive impression witin the first 14 seconds.

However, SEO is not an exact science due to search engines changing their alogrithms and indexing criteria. But, there are certain techniques that can ensure your site is returned from your desired search criteria.
